Bring out the stethoscopes! =)
Clinical skills on Monday.
We learnt to take vital signs.
(the grey stethoscope above has 2 sets of ear pieces, so that 2 persons can listen in. Very handy for training purposes.)
It was quite fun as you can see...
That guy having his BP taken is Dr Bob. Medical Degree, Dentistry Degree, practiced 45 yrs. *kowtow* He tells lovely stories, and likes to take walks.
There was this baby who was born without eyelids, then the doctor suggested that the baby got circumcised and use that skin to make eyelids.
Mom: "Wouldn't my baby be cock-eyed?"
Doc: "No. He will have foresight."
Thanks Dr Bob.
Oh yes, you cannot take your own BP, as my classmate, Lauren found out. =)

bwa hahaha funny doctor. ask if he has more than 2 funny bones in him and if he'll still be that funny if they're removed :p
why cannot take own blood pressure?
how come?
You can't take your own BP because you can really filter out the internal heart sounds from those coming from the stethescope, cos you are supposed to listen for the heart sounds when they are first heard, and until they disappear.
So that's why. =)
I think you mean you "can't" filter out the internal heart sounds...
Anyway, I always thought it is because your eardrums have heartbeats too. Hence interference.
I've tried using one of those stethoscopes before. All you hear is gurgling noises like water going down a drain pipe. How can you tell anything from that? I've always suspected that doctors do the stethoscope thing only so that patients feel more secure. Or it gives the doctors a few minutes to think of the answer "hmm... what did my Prof say I should do? Dammit, where are my notes? Ok. Think think! Now, *thoughtful concerned look*"
